RESPONSIBILITY AND REPAIRING HARM

Space to be heard.
Room to take responsibility.

Criminal mediation offers an opportunity to discuss the consequences of an incident and ways to repair the harm caused. Participation requires the voluntary and informed consent of those taking part.

Criminal mediation

In Poland, a case may be referred to mediation by a court or prosecutor; during pre-trial proceedings, another authorised body may also make a referral. The mediator explains the rules, agrees the conditions of participation and helps the parties talk without imposing an outcome.

Common topics

  • Discussing the consequences of the incident
  • Exploring ways to repair the harm caused
  • Arrangements for compensation for non-material harm
  • Other arrangements accepted by the participants

A settlement does not automatically end criminal proceedings or guarantee a particular decision. Its significance is assessed by the competent authority. The Polish State Treasury covers the costs of criminal mediation referred by an authorised body.

Online mediation

Distance need not
stop the conversation.

Online mediation lets participants join from different locations. We work with cases from Kraków, Małopolska and across Poland; participation from abroad is arranged individually.

The remote format is agreed with all participants. You need a quiet space, a reliable connection and conditions that allow free and confidential participation.
